This is now another manuscript demonstrating that there is no magic bullet to prevent renal failure following contrast injection. It appears that it’s not the type of fluid hydration but simply hydration that works. Obviously limiting contrast and the use of nonionic agents are also important. However, since there does not appear to be a negative associated with NaBicarb, we will continue to use it and Mucomyst in our protocol to prevent contrast induced nephropathy.
